Understanding MEA & PEA Certification for EV Charger in Thailand
Thailand’s EV charging infrastructure certification is mainly divided into MEA and PEA requirements. Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) applies to charging stations installed in Bangkok and surrounding metropolitan areas, while Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) covers projects outside Bangkok across provincial regions.
Both MEA and PEA focus on ensuring the safety, stability, and compatibility of EV charging systems with Thailand’s power grid infrastructure. Manufacturers and suppliers are generally required to submit technical documents such as product specifications, electrical schematics, protection system information, and international compliance reports. Chargers are commonly expected to comply with IEC standards including IEC 61851, IEC 62196, and relevant EMC and safety regulations.
In addition, both authorities may require site inspections, installation verification, and operational approval before the charging station can be connected to the local grid. The approval procedures and technical requirements may vary slightly between MEA and PEA depending on the project location and installation scale.

Note: Most EV chargers sold in Thailand must display either MEA or PEA approval (or both) to be legally used. Always verify which certification your target region requires before procurement. Non-compliance risks fines, shipment delays, or product seizure. More EV Charger Products : www.electway.en.alibaba.com
